I’ve sometimes asked myself why I do what I do — and I think it comes down to this:

With my designs, I aim to gently shift the rhythm of everyday life—less noise, more space for beauty, calm and meaning.

My roots

I grew up in a medieval house in the beautiful town of Zutphen, by the river IJssel. Surrounded by nature, artistic parents, and the creative mindset of a Waldorf school, I unknowingly laid the foundation for what would later become my studio.

My inspirations

You’ll find my inspirations woven throughout the entire collection: the changing seasons, nature’s quiet details, old (folk) traditions, and small daily rituals that bring a sense of connection.

About the production

All paper products are locally made by a wonderful family-run business—just a short bike ride from my studio. The textiles are produced in Nepal, in close collaboration with a women’s fair trade project. Wherever production happens, the lines are short, the origin is clear, and the process is built on honest partnerships.

Where do they sell JM?

My designs have been travelling the world for years, and are now sold in design shops, concept stores, and museum boutiques across the globe. Everything is flat-packed for easy shipping, and instantly recognisable by its clean Dutch design with a soft, poetic twist.

Commission work
In addition to constantly developing my collection for my own company, I also work with great passion for other companies. I often advise and design for completely different audiences, in other styles, but funnily enough everything always features my own signature.

Photostudio HIMLI

Great news: in March 2022 my husband Peter and I opened studio HIMLI, a daylight studio for photography and video in 'het Gooi'. A lovely place: spacious, bright and high, with everything you need for your photo shoot. Only 15 minutes from Amsterdam (in Naarden, near the exit on the A1) and also free parking spaces, right in front of the door. Besides the fact that I myself use our photo studio to photograph my own designs, we rent out studio HIMLI per day or per half day. Do you have plans for a photo shoot?
